Comprehensive hormone test

Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones (DUTCH) from Precision Analytical

4500 SEK (approx. 420 euro) including a consultation of 1 hour

This test measures sex hormones and stress hormones, and importantly, their metabolites using four samples collected over a 24 hour period. By measuring their metabolites it is in some cases possible to deduce whether an abnormal hormone level is because of too high/low production or too high/low clearance rate.

If you suspect that you might suffer from high levels of stress hormones, HPA axis dysfunction/adrenal fatigue, testosterone deficiency or estrogen dominance, this is the test for you. For example, a DUTCH test might give you interesting clues if you suffer from fatigue, difficulties getting up in the morning, fatigue, PMS, sleeplessness and want to know if there might be hormonal problems behind. For example, the test can reveal

  • Too high or low levels of stress hormone cortisol
  • If the production of cortisol is elevated or too low
  • If the cortisol breakdown is low or high
  • Low DHEA
  • An imbalance in the levels of estrogen and progesterone, e.g. estrogen dominance
  • Low testosterone

This test can indicate the mechanisms behind symptoms, and provide a direction for how to proceed.

Pre-menopausal women should take the test between day 19 and 22 of their cycle if day 1 counts as the first day of bleeding. If your cycle is irregular, or shorter or longer than 28 days, contact me for instructions. If you’re on hormonal birth control you sex hormone results will be affected, but not your adrenal hormones.

You collect urine samples on test strips in your home, and simply send them to the lab in a supplied envelope.

Read Precision Analytical’s own description of the test here and have a look at one of their sample reports here.

It’s also possible to take a separate adrenal or sex hormone panel using the same test provider but for a lower cost. Contact me for prices.
